Bonus: Trivia!

  • It’s Paxi’s (fourlies) first time being a Head Judge at a Major Event. Congratulations on a job well done!
  • It’s actually the first major tournament that Top 8’er Jonathan Cruz played, which is a breakout performance as the other seven players in the playoffs are considered seasoned veterans. The only BFA upgrade to his Sylvia deck? Enraged Knight!
  • Valentina Deep Striker faced a potential total of 10 Black Moonbeams throughout the course of the tournament, which is impressive considering the deck doesn’t have a single copy of Wind-Secluded Refuge! Ironically, it lost to a matchup that isn’t packing any: Machina Green.
  • 2016 Champion Jonathan deJoseph designed THREE of the Top 8 decks: RR JDJ, Totoy Bato, and Valentina Deep Striker. These three decks have a combined record of 14 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws in the Swiss rounds.
  • Semi-finalist Raphael Guevarra was the only player in the tournament who played Fairies.
  • The top seed going into the playoffs is actually Machina! Zeb Melosantos piloted the Green Machines to a 5-0-1 record, including a win over the dreaded Reflect Control Matchup, and is the only deck in the tournament to beat Valentina.
  • The fan-favorite deck which missed the cut was Patrick Joshua Elizegui’s Angry Beavers, a R/R deck which uses beasts, buffs, and Pricia, Beast Queen in hiding to deal huge chunks of damage. It ended in the Top 16 after the Swiss rounds. You can check out his list at the link below.

Bonus: 9th-16th Decklists!

Looking for other top-performing decks which didn’t make the cut? John Say has you covered! You can find it HERE, with all the Shion, Gill Lapis, and Yggdrasil goodness inside.
